100 days of Tech Detox – Day 50

Posted on April 23, 2016 by Sonali

I made it to the half way mark this time! Woo Hoo! I have had my shares of ups and downs but I think I have kept my promise more or less. I hope to continue for another 50 days so that by the time I am finished I have tamed my addiction, if not annihilate it.

It was a lazy day yesterday. The cool weather meant that it was time to sit in bed and do nothing. And I loved it! Yash and I spent the day eating, chatting and playing Mario. I did not want to cook dinner but Yash wanted his favourite dinner of paratha and aloo. So I obliged! I made dosas for husband and idlis for myself. I am a culinary goddess! Look at the picture of the soft, white idlis…

Now let us move on to my next candidate, #4

Candidate 4

We had reached a stage where my parents would check if there was a shortlisted boy at the place we were taking a trip. I was becoming cooler and more stubborn by the day. Without being disrespectful to my parents, I was putting my foot down if I did not find anything about the person suitable.

So amongst all this, we planned a trip to Mumbai to visit my brother who was doing his engineering from IIT. Yeah, we have a genius in our family! We were staying at a cousin’s place. My mum had scheduled a meeting with this guy who lived and worked in Mumbai. He chose an upmarket restaurant some where in Colaba to meet.

The moment I walked in the restaurant, I knew it was expensive. Now in india, the girl’s family is also supposed to bear the expenses of the meeting. So I wasn’t happy that we will be shelling out the dosh if I didn’t like the guy. So this man walks in with a friend. When I started chatting to him, I realised very quickly that he had come for a fun trip. Chat to a girl, show off to his friends was this loser’s idea of fun. Oh he was in for a surprise!

I kept the charade and when it came to the bill, in india they always hand it over to the man. This time I held my mum’s hand firmly under the table to ensure that the guy paid the bill. It was a few thousand rupees, a small fortune in the 90s. He was taken aback but I got the satisfaction that at least I didn’t pay for his fun.

The next one will be my last but the funniest. So till tomorrow…..
