The year 2024!!

Posted on December 31, 2024 by Sonali

When I was 16, 2024 and me turning 50 seemed like a lifetime away. And here we are with the year gone as the words of my amma – my grandmother, reverberate in my ears that everyone gets old in their own time but only a few get old with wisdom. I hope when she looks at me down from where ever she is, she thinks I have grown wiser too.

This year has had more highs than lows. I have had frustrating days but that is part of living life! Here’s to some of the highs of this year

  • I turned 50 and with me now officially middle age, I am more aware of my mortality and want to make most of every day that I live.
  • We went to Japan and made memories with my son knowing that next two years will be busy with his HSC.
  • We visited our family and spent some amazing days with my parents and siblings. It was food for the soul that lasted me for the year.
  • I celebrated my birthday with people who matter most – my friends like family in my adopted homeland, who I know always have my back.
  • I blogged more this year than the year before and aim to continue with this streak.
  • I read more books and bought a kindle to help me with keeping up my reading. It has been my best buy for a long time and I am hoping to read more books next year.
  • I focussed on health and wellbeing for me and my team at work and it paid us rich dividends in kicking off some big goals at work.

While a new year is just another day, I like the notional idea of stop and start.

As a friend referred today – Life continues to go on, no matter what and we don’t need rushed endings and perfect beginnings.

This is what wisdom looks like – It takes time to appreciate that life will remain uncertain and the only thing we need is grit and gratitude to appreciate it in all its forms.

On that note, here’s to ushering in 2025 with all its uncertainties, highs, lows and memories. I am ready for it!
