We did not have a car when I was growing up. So there were no road trips. Most of our leisure trips were in the train which was an adventure in itself, something I will write about separately in a post. The road trips were limited to bus journeys which I hated coz they were in these rickety buses which ran on diesel and made me sick. For years, I thought I suffered motion sickness and hated any sort of travel by road.
And then I got married to a man who could spend his life in a car. For our honeymoon, we drove to Mount Abu, a journey of some 500 kms. That was just the starting! With us living in Delhi, we took countless trips to Ludhiana and Jaipur, our home towns and majority were in our car. I started loving road trips – the stopping at dhabas, the chats in the comfort of our car, the getting up and going without planning and chucking everything in the car. I soon realised my motion sickness was more to do with the dodgy bus and its fumes.
After we moved to Australia, this was our choice for travel! Our adopted homeland is abundant in natural beauty and with its outback, is a dream for travelling by road. Since then, we have moved around Australia in our car. In fact, as a family, we don’t like to fly locally. We love to drive around – it is our dream to travel around the country in our car and open our eyes to a new sunrise every day.
I highly encourage you to take the road less travelled(pun intended) and stop and stare at the world around! Nature is beautiful and life is too short to let it slide by!
