When I looked at the topic of my current blog, for a moment I stopped in my tracks. I know the traditional meaning of the title is marital status but the thoughts that went through my mind were around the word relationship. Why does current relationship status only talk about marriage? Surely I have other meaningful relationships whose status might have changed. So my blog today would be different from what you have read about this topic before.
Family
My relationship with my family has evolved over the years but even more so with the advent of COVID 19. We have learnt new ways to celebrate anniversaries, birthdays and share important occasions. With my extended family too, WhatsApp is the new medium for us to keep in touch. Everyone has embraced the social media and my current relationship with them is as strong as ever.
Friends
I have been blessed with a lot of friends and I have varied, individual relationships with them. With the changing climate, this is one relationship that has changed. I have become closer to my close friends, some have maintained their current status while some have completely dropped off. My current relationship with all those who matter is unscathed!
Current Relationship
Now to the traditional definition. I have been married for 20 years to a wonderful man – he truly is my best friend and partner. We had an arranged marriage and since then have solidified our relationship through the various life events. For us “till death do us part” rings true as we enter the next stage of our lives with our son going to high school next year.
Relationships are the foundation of our existence and what this pandemic has taught us is that they are the only ones that matter. So hug your loved ones and enjoy the various relationships in your lives.
