I have a lot of feel good books – books that make me feel warm, fuzzy and happy! Most of these books are human stories having a happy ending.
There are some authors who write happy books. They are called chick-lit, light, airy books, good for a read on the beach or on holidays. I have almost all books of Jane Green and Cathy Kelly which fall in this category.
My happy book though is Forty Rules of Love. The book introduced me to Rumi. It is written by acclaimed Turkish author Elif Shafak. Before I bought this book, I read the reviews and they were mixed. But I was looking to expand my reading and picked it up. And I was glad I did!
The book has a parallel narrative of a American housewife in 2017 and 13th Century Sufi poets Shams of Tabrez and Rumi who were spiritually connected. The book is about love and friendship in its truest form.
It is not an easy book and definitely not for everyone. But it is my happy book as it offers me peace. And peace for me is happiness!
I will leave you with a Rumi quote – Come out of the circle of time And into the circle of love.
