This is a tough one! Over the years I have read so many books and loved so many writers, how do I choose my favourite? I think I am going to tackle it by the top few whose books I have enjoyed a d read multiple times!
- J.K.Rowling – I am a Harry Potter fan. I love all the books and can read them again and again. J.K.Rowling remains my favourite author. I admire her as a person too. She uses her fame and popularity for the broader purpose of bettering the world which is inspiring. She is a huge philanthropist which is another feather in her cap!
- Jhumpa Lahiri – When I first read Interpreter of Maladies, I was in a trance. The stories were unconventional but hit me hard. I mean till date I can recall and feel the emotions from that time, this is how powerful the impact was of the book. After that I read Namesake and then Unaccustomed Earth and Jhumpa was firmly planted as one of my favourite authors. Her writing style is such that it feels like the books are speaking to you. I hope she writes more!
- Enid Blyton – As a young girl, Enid Blyton’s books played a big role in expanding my creativity. Her books transported me to another world and were a big influence in developing my love for books. She remains one of my favourite author and I still enjoy reading her books.
- All classic authors like Jane Austen, Louise M Alcott, Charlotte Bronte, Charles Dickens remain my favourite. In the Hindi world, Premchand, Sharatchandta novels still remain a firm favourite. I am reading them to my son now.
As I am finishing this off my mind is racing towards all the books and authors who are coming to my mind that I have missed. But what can one do – too many books, too little time!
