Diwali 2012

Posted on November 14, 2012 by Sonali

I always get excited about Diwali. Over the years, I have grown older, become a mom, moved countries but my excitement has not dimmed. A week before Diwali, I start preparing and planning for the day, the food and everything else which really is lighting up the house!

This year was special for a couple of reasons. We had not celebrated Diwali last year coz we were in mourning for m father in law. So this year, we wanted to celebrate with a bang. We had just moved in a new house. As anyone living in an apartment would know, there is not much you can do about lighting when you live on the 10th floor with one balcony. So, I intended to use my backyard and the long fence to the full advantage. And last but not the least, Yash was of an age where he i could talk to him about festivals and the importance of Diwali.

Thanks to my darling husband, who spent a day putting up the hooks and infrastructure for the lights up, our house was lit up by Dhanteras. I had ordered lots of tea lights and the battery powered diyas to replace the earthen diyas from home. Yash and I put these up on our driveway and around the house to get in Diwali mode.

It was really cute when Yash went around the street wishing everyone Happy Diwali. A few sparkles and a feast and Diwali was over.

Now that I am packing up the diyas and the lights away, I can’t wait for next year when we plan to go to India to give Yash the full experience. Happy Diwali all!!
