Books – too many to read, too little time. As an avid book lover, I am constantly reading something interesting. I have written many a time on my blog about my love for books. In fact, I chronicled 30 days of books a couple of years ago.
Recently, I joined a book club and read “The American Dirt” which will stay with me for a long time. I am currently reading two books simultaneously, something that I have a habit of doing from time to time depending on my mood.
The first one is “The Moroccan Daughter” by Deborah Rodriguez. Having read her “ The Little Coffee Shop of Kabul”, I was keen on reading this one. I am only on first few pages and it is turning out to be an excellent read.
But my favourite read of the week is “मेरी प्रिय कहानियाँ” (My favourite Stories) by Amrita Pritam. It is a collection of short stories compiled by her, not written by her. I love reading books in Hindi as it is a whole other experience reading something in your mother tongue. I have a collection of books in Hindi with Malti Joshi being one of my favourite writer.
The short stories so far have been an interesting read. Each of them are a character based story and you get sucked into the life and emotions described for the character. Most seem to be based on people you may meet in real life, so you can visualise them. I am loving them.
So far I have 3 of the stories and what struck me was the simplicity of the writing but the powerful message at the end. I intend to buy a few more of books in hindi on my trip to india later this year, but till then this may remain my favourite read.
