I am guilty, that is why I haven’t written! Not of not keeping my promise around practising detox, but having another addiction….I know, practising a detox and getting addicted to something else is not ideal. But I have succumbed to the pleasure of watching Downton Abbey – the English series that had taken the world by storm 4 years ago and is still charming people world over! You see I took the Netflix subscription when it was available in Australia and the first thing I saw was Downton Abbey. And I was hooked!
I love it and can understand all the hoo ha about it. I love it because:
- I am sucker for English country dramas especially the ones set in early 19th century. The England of that era fascinate me especially the wars and the changes it brought about.
- I love the whole notion of the lords and the ladies and the life they led, even if I don’t agree with it. The decor, the castles, the crockery, the dinners, the balls, everything about it amazes me.
- I liked how the characters have been etched in the series. Every single of them have a part to play and I love how all of them have shades of grey. That always makes the best dramas.
- My favourite characters are Lord Grantham and Lady Violet Grantham. I am in a little love with Hugh Bonneville. He is my idea of an English lord, so handsome and stately. And Maggie Smith cracks me up. She is a perfect Lady, humorous and very stoic and set in her ways of the world. She thinks it is right that there are classes and people are kept separated but sticks with her family irrespective of who and that is charming.
So I am up to Season 3 – yes, it has been marathon viewing late nights and early mornings. It has been great and I have managed to keep my promise on the detox too! By the way, get Netflix if you haven’t yet. It is worth it!
