Books so far!!!

Posted on June 2, 2011 by Sonali

As I mentioned in my last post, I have been ordering and reading a few books in the past few weeks….not that I don’t read other times, but I did order a couple recently and have already finished 2 of them and am on to my third….

The first one I read was “The Sandalwood Tree” by Elle Newmark. I had read great reviews about this book and the story was set in pre independence India, so I was lured in reading it. The story line was intriguing…it had 2 parallel stories running – the current about an american woman who has moved to India in 1942 with her husband and son in order to repair her fragile relationship with her husband who is still recovering from his experiences in WWII. In the Victorian house they live in a small place called Shamli, she discovers letters from two English woman who had lived in that cottage in the 1850s in the Victorian era. The story then splits in 2 story lines and how they are interwoven and the lessons she learns and applies from these women’s courage and experiences.

Even though the book had a bit of mystery in it, I felt it was a bit dragged in the end. But all in all a great book especially Elle has been able to capture the times and the culture of India beautifully. I would recommend it. In fact, I have passed it to my book lover friend Ornella.

The second book that I have completed is “Sisters” by Rosamund Lupton. A very interesting detective story. The book is written in first person by the protagonist who is telling the story of solving the mystery of her sister’s death to her dead sister. The book keeps u on your toes because you want to get to the end to solve the mystery but like the previous book, I think this one too was dragged at the end…..but that may just be me coz I wanted to know the end. Again, a good book that I recommend.

The other thing that is happening in my life is that I have fallen sick. I pride myself on having a very good immunity and rarely fall sick but alas I was no match to this dreadful cold going around. So I am in bed today, writing blogs, drinking lots of fluids and watching tv…..maybe I will read another book and post review tomorrow! Till then adieu!!!

iPad post….
