I have always been a book worm. In fact growing up, I used to spend most of my spare time in my room reading books. My sister and I used to spend all our pocket money, money received from relatives, birthday money etc on buying books. This was on top of the library books that we borrowed.
The book that reminds me of home are the Nancy Drew books. I loved them and had managed to collect a lot of them. The trio of Nancy, George and Bess reminded me of the my friends trio at school. I always imagined myself as Nancy and hoped that when I grew up, I would have a boyfriend like Ned.
My sister and I read these books, cover to over, several times. We then used to discuss the books in details about what we liked and what we did not. There are so many fond memories associated with these books – our shared bedroom, our closet with books piled in it, the late night reading, sometimes under the doona! All these memories make me smile as I make a life away from my family, home and motherland.
I haven’t read Nancy Drew in decades but writing this blog post has made me nostalgic. Time to buy a few and revisit my younger days!
