I love books with strong female characters. I actually feel kinship with strong women. So over the years I have read a lot of books with woman as the central character. In fact, one of my favourite books is “Becoming” by Michelle Obama.
My favourite female character is Skeeter from The Help. This book is one of my favourite and is full of strong female characters. But I have chosen Skeeter coz she takes the unconventional route in the book.
I mean it is hard for me to reconcile that this was happening in the America of the 60s but looking at the current state of the country, I am definitely not surprised.
Skeeter defies the social and political norms of the time, even making her friends angry and deserting her, to do what she thought was right. She helped bring the stories of so many women forward to create a change and empowering them.
It is a very powerful, once-in-a-generation kinda book. So if you haven’t read it, then grab your copy today. Watch the movie after that – you would not be disappointed!
