I grew up in a family where music was literally life. My mum is a trained classical singer and made sure both my sister and I learnt music. Everyone in my family can sing and even in my extended family, music and dance is like that thread in our tapestry binding us together.
I remember growing up, the first thing my mum did was switch on the radio. The “Vividh Bharti” Channel as it was called then, would play some old Indian Bollywood songs and my mum would hum to them and make tea. That is what we woke up to rather than the harsh alarms.
We loved all sort of music but Bollywood music is very close to my heart. I am a rhythm and beats girl – the music needs to be soothing and melodious for me to like it. But as long as it is melody, the language is immaterial.
Good music automatically puts me in a good mood and a state of happiness. I try and listen to it first thing in the morning to start my day right. These days I am listening to a mix of RD Burman and AR Rahman. If you have never heard their music, I highly recommend.
Do share your taste in music and what is on your playlist. I look forward to getting some tips!
