Today’s question is “ Three things you and your best friend have in common.”
I made friends in my new homeland in my adulthood which is always harder but better. When you make friends in adulthood, you are more conscious and choosy. I am very lucky that I have a close circle of friends who I love spending time with. They all fill a different part of my heart and have a special place in my life.
My best friend and I had a chance meet at a gathering and have been inseparable since. We realised that we lived close to each other and that further helped strengthen the bond. Here are the three things that we have in common.
We both believe that you have to invest in a relationship to maintain it. She moved houses a few years ago and moved further away. So while we continued our daily chit chats on the phone, we meet every month for breakfast. This is something regular that we have put in our diaries to ensure that we continue to invest in our friendship. Just like any other relationship, this time and commitment indicates that we are important to each other and will not take each other for granted. So we may meet for other events and things that we do together, the breakfast is something that we will meet for, regardless.
We are honest and non-judgemental. We never mince words with each other. We are not scared to tell each other anything as we know that the other will not judge and advice with the others’ best interest. So over a period of time we have gone on to talk about anything and everything under the sun, having that trust and psychological safety .
Lastly, we are super intelligent creatures. Our conversations are wide and varied and we can share opinions about anything and everything. We are both voracious readers with keen interest in the world and love intellectual conversations. While we may disagree on so many of them, it is exciting and thrilling to have then with someone who is your bestie.
I am lucky to have someone in my life with who I can do all the above and be goofy and have fun. That is super critical for both of us and you would find us giggling like two school girls when we are together.
Relationships are precious, so if you are wondering why yours is not going anywhere, make time for it. If you make investment, you will definitely see the returns.
