This is my saga dealing with one of the biggest bank in India who have the above slogan as their tagline and profess customer service. I am writing this blog to humour you with my frustrating experience so that the world can understand why India is 25 years behind.
1. The woman employee was sugary sweet when opening the account. So much so that she did not pay attention to my questions and gave jumbled answers…answers she did not remember when I wrote her an email. Thank you HDFC bank for employing incompetent morons!
2. Oh my god! I changed houses……and my email address! You are not supposed to change both if you are an HDFC bank customer coz your life is finished. Power of attorney? Hang on don’t go by what it means in every sensible world. IN HDFC world it means zilch even after you have sent signed letters with change proof.
3. Complain on social media and you get another incompetent specimen call you talking to you in that special patronising tone reserved only for NRIs. “I will sort it out for you” he says. A form follows in the email. Eh, I sent the letter but okay I will fill the form so that it can rot in one of your files never to be seen again. But oh no, scanning and sending it via email is too advanced. After all, india’s biggest tertiary industry is only technology. Post it in hard copy to an address, I am told.
4. After that, it is multiple interactions with robots where each subsequent email is answered by a standard response “we will answer your email in 4 days” and “contact the incompetent specimen” . HELLO, do you read emails? I sent it to you because he did not help me and you have not answered my question “HOW IS A POSTED COPY OF A FORM DIFFERENT FROM A SCANNED COPY? PRINT IT AND YOU HAVE A HARD COPY!
After several attempts I have given up. It is too much time wasted on a what I thought was a simple thing but hey I was wrong. Changing address is a big job in HDFC land!
So fellow bankers, stay put in your houses…..do not leave in any circumstances even if the rent goes up, your children outgrow it, your landlord kicks you out….stick to it. Coz if you want to change address with HDFC bank, it will be harder than all the above!
