January 2026

Posted on February 1, 2026February 2, 2026 by Sonali

The year always start in a hurry. Before you know it, a month has gone by and the year is in full swing. For me it was a mix of lazy days and busy times. It is still summer in Australia, so days are long and one can still do things in the evening after a working day.

My January was focussed on making sure I made a new habit as per my micro resolution. So in spite of some missed days due to illness, I followed move and mood. I worked out, resumed my daily walks and ensured I dressed up every day to lift my spirits. The thing I am most proud of is that I have started weight training and am enjoying it. Whatever I have read and researched so far, weight training is essential for a woman in her 50s. So I am hoping this habit will help I’m good stead over the years.

January was resting, relaxing and getting ready for the year. Here are the highlights.

  1. My best friend Poornima and I acted on our long standing desire of starting a talk series. We kicked off on friendship. You can follow us on zindagitidbits.
  2. My son started his last year of school. It is as much a milestone for us as it is for him. He will be 18 this year and sometimes I cannot believe how fast the years have flown.
  3. I read 5 books, the most notable being the Booker prize shortlisted by Kiran Dessie, who came out of hibernation after 20 years to write this magnum opus – The loneliness of Sonia and Sunny. I will write a separate blog post to review the books I read. I want to read at least 30 books this year and have gotten to a good start.
  4. I binge watched a lot of movies and series on various OTT platform. There are 2 notable ones to mention- the movie Haq and the series Taskaree. Haq was brilliant for the topic in question but more so for Yami Gautam for her extraordinary acting and the movie did not politicise the issue shown and stuck to the fact – a rare feat these days. Taskaree (smuggling) surprised me for the cast, acting and the storytelling.
  5. I watched this show at Opera House with a group of friends. The show was not as I expected but the night was beautiful and the company great. So it turned out to be a great evening out.

February will be a short month but I have a few things planned and I am looking forward to it.
