September 2026

Posted on October 6, 2026 by Sonali

And just like that, we are in the last quarter of the year! People have already started talking about Christmas and New Year and before we blink, 2026 will be over.

September was a busy month. It was the last month of schooling life for my son, so it was a culmination of the journey for us as a family. 14 years of school life coming to an end was a bitter sweet moment. He is now a man and ready to face the trials and tribulations of adulthood. I hope he has gained enough skills to survive!

The month kicked off with my bestie and I going for a burlesque Cabaret at Kings Cross. We went with no expectations and it turned out to be such a wonderful night. The show, the food and the artists were top notch. It was a hilarious, tastefully done night. Might make it an annual birthday affair.

Poornima and I went to the Arts Gallery of NSW to watch the exhibition Avatars of Vishnu. It was fascinating. Both of us grew up in India listening to the mythological stories about God Vishnu. But seeing all the paintings and sculptors, especially from different parts of the world and the interpretations, was enthralling. I was intrigued and came back and read more about it. I have started believing more and more with my husband’s theory that all the mythological gods are actually aliens from another planet and this is actually “mrityu lok”. Hindu Mythology actually talks about it but that is a post for another day.

My friend Poornima and I always try and do different experiences for our birthdays. This year we did a walk called “She Shapes History”. It was a guided walk where we learnt about the contributions of women in the city of Sydney which has not been documented or even credited in most cases. Sydney was built by women and would be a different place if it was not for these brave hearts.

The following week, we went out for a night of theatre. The play was “The Book of Everything” at Belvoir Street Theatre. A friend recommended that play and it was amazing. The actors, the story and the production made the weeknight effort worthwhile. I am looking forward to more theatre nights.

That Friday night we went out for dinner to Delhi O Delhi in Newtown with some friends. The food was delicious, especially their jodhpuri paratha and rabdi kulfi was one of its kind. Between the food and the conversations, it was a great evening.

The following week was the last week of school for my son. We went for his graduation ceremony and it was so emotional. Looking back at his journey from prep to year 12 and how the kids have grown to be young men and women, was like stepping back in time. It was a milestone for all of us and we reminisced about the time gone by and all the associated memories.

That Friday, I went to watch the famous musical “My Fair Lady”. This lavish recreation is based on the 2016 Australian production directed by Julie Andrews, who was catapulted into stardom when she originated the role of Eliza Doolittle, an irrepressible Cockney flower girl who transforms into a lady of society. It was a treat to watch it at Joan Sutherland Theatre, The actors, the production and the live orchestra made the night special.

The last Saturday of the month was a get-together at a friend’s house for a night of laughter and fun. We were getting together after a long time, so there was a bit to catch up on and the chatter continued late in the night. Another great night of memories.

September was busy but with so many good things and experiences. Below is the snapshot of the month.
