100 days of Tech Detox

Posted on March 5, 2015 by Sonali

I admit it – I am a tech junkie! I love technology and follow all new gadgets like a child follows ToysRUs. But at the same time, I use technology to my advantage. I use it to run my life! So from keeping in touch with my family overseas to reading news and books, listening to music, my to-do list, coordinating family events – everything is managed and done through my IPad.

But lately I have started feeling that instead of me using technology to running my life, it is actually running my life! This came home to me after I attended this breakfast seminar this week. Sometimes people make statements that get you thinking and this is what happens to me. The seminar was about customer service but the speaker made a general statement that if you want to know if you love someone, miss them when they are not around and give them attention when they are around.

It was like a penny drop moment for me! I realised that for my family, I have the first one so true but the second part is what I am doing wrong. I am so but with my iPad and iPhone that I never give them my full attention. My poor husband has given up now after raising it a few times and not seeing a change but Yash is starting to notice it more and more.

That is when I decided that I have to do something. But addiction to anything have to be weaned away. So I decided I will start with 100 days of detox, from tonight. I will only use technology – namely my smartphone and tablet between 7 in the morning and 7 in the evening. For all my reading needs, I will use the kindle reader which is only equipped with books. I will document my journey and hopefully by the end of it I will be cured of my addiction!

Wish me luck! And read my journey on my blog…..who knows it may inspire you to do the same 🙂
