100 days of food – Day 1

Posted on January 7, 2014 by Sonali

New year, new blog! I kept thinking of a new challenge for myself, something I don’t pay attention to or find it hard.  And then it hit me – food! I love food, a little too much. I will chronicle 100 days of what I eat and see how much of it is clean eating. I was going for 100 days of clean eating but realised it will be very hard with 2 men in the family. This was the next best thing and I can then check how much junk I actually eat (I don’t think I eat much). My friend Ornella thinks this will help me eat healthy anyways as I will be paying attention. That is the idea!

Now Day 1….it was the first day at work after two glorious weeks, so was hard to get out of bed. But it was time to go! I usually like to take breakfast from home but when I don’t, I love the yogurt and muesli from Top juice. I make this at home as well and am addicted to it.

For lunch, Ornella and I decided to go for a walk. We live in one of the most beautiful cities of the world and forget that in the daily humdrum. The walk reminded us that and the weather was beautiful to come back refreshed. As part of my healthy kick, we stopped on the way to have grilled fish and salad. The fish was beautifully done and the salad did not have enough cucumber! But overall it was a good lunch.

Yesterday was also the first day of gym. Two of my friends and I decided that we need to get our energy back. We found this great gym which is close to our house and cheap. So, the 3 of us joined it and when we went there yesterday, it was good to do it together. We kept each other motivated. I hope it lasts!

My darling husband, knowing I will be tired, cooked rajma and rice for dinner. Rajma is red kidney beans made indian style. It is one of the most popular foods in Punjab, the state that I come from and it is nutritious and delicious. Have it with boiled basmati rice to be in food heaven.

So the first day wasn’t bad. Here is the picture of the 3 meals to tantalise your taste buds.
