S – Success

Posted on August 19, 2021 by sonalion

Success is an interesting word. Over the years, it has been defined by society as a box that you need to somehow fit yourself in and if you don’t, then it is like a milestone you haven’t met in life.

For years, I believed that myth. But as I continued to learn more and went on my growth journey, I realised the bull shit. Since then I have redefined success.

Success for me is personal, like religion. It means different things to different people in different settings. It changes over time, with relationships and circumstances.

But over a period of time we have let it slip and made it more a herd mentality. It is no longer defined by us but defined by everyone around it. So, just like religion, the loudest and the strongest get to define success not just for themselves but for everyone else. Today, if you have the most money, most power, a big title, a big car, house you are successful! All the material things that everyone else can see defines our success, irrespective of the fact how much importance we pay to it.

I define my success when I am at peace both in my external life and home life. I would not trade that for any amount of material things. I have friends who have defined their success as raising beautiful humans and others who have defined theirs as becoming the CEO of a corporation. Again, each on their own, there are no right or wrong answers to it.

Let us break the society defined success and create our own definitions. We only have one life and we should be living it on our own terms. That is true success!
